MOZART'S SISTER Q&A SCREENING EVENT
Friday, 1 November, 6.30pm at Luna Leederville
The Luna Leederville is delighted to present a special Q&A screening of Mozart’s Sister featuring Creative Producer and founder of the Tenth Muse Initiative, Hannah Lee Tungate, award-winning composer Emma Jayakumar, and moderated by Clementine Crowther, Senior Advisor, Advocacy at Minderoo Foundation.
From multi-awarded Director/Producer Madeleine Hetherton-Miau and Producer Rebecca Barry, MOZART'S SISTER is a ‘musical-true-crime’ story that explores the lost talent of Maria-Anna Mozart.
For the first 16 years of her life, Mozart’s sister shared equal billing with her brother. Musical partners and collaborators, Wolfgang Mozart and Maria-Anna Mozart played together before Kings and Queens, and were the talk of Europe. Forced to withdraw from public life because she was a woman, a stunning new investigation explores why she was retired and what happened to her music.
The documentary features exquisite music composed by Jessica Wells and performed by acclaimed orchestras, including the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. It’s narrated by Alma Deutscher.

PANELISTS
Hannah Lee Tungate is a soprano, creative producer, and changemaker dedicated to championing marginalised composers through performance, research, and advocacy. As the founder of Tenth Muse Initiative, she curates innovative projects that bring lesser-known voices to light and provide a platform for emerging creatives. Beyond her work as a performer and producer, Hannah’s advocacy is reflected in her Women’s Composers Project, where she conducts research to elevate forgotten composers. The research includes analysing gender and cultural representation statistics from major Australian symphony orchestras to highlight trends and gaps within the industry. Her advocacy aims to increase diversity in classical music and opera, both on and off stage.
Emma Jayakumar is an acclaimed Australian composer known for her works in opera, ballet, and chamber music. Recent commissions include "Swim With Me" for the Perth Symphony Orchestra and "Our Little Inventor” for the West Australian Opera 2022 which received outstanding reviews for its innovative score, libretto and performances, a five star review from Limelight and won the Performing Arts WA award for Outstanding Composition. Emma completed her PhD in composition at WAAPA and received the WAAPA Research Medal in 2018. She is a sought-after composer and fierce advocate of engaging and accessible works for young audiences, as well as new music celebrating diverse Australian voices.
