Perth doesn’t see a lot of drug-fuelled Sapphic opera, but Tenth Muse Initiative managed to strike a chord (a few, actually) with its sold-out production, The Priestess of Morphine.

On Tuesday, the Tenth Muse Initiative bewitched and moved audiences with the preview night of its powerful new show The Priestess of Morphine.

Tenth Muse Initiative gives voice to a once infamous literary figure in a captivating series of opiate-like vignettes. Stewart Smith believes this production outdoes the original opera in every way.

A string quartet plays atmospheric sketches of woodland and open air while a painter etches an image on a red canvas.

Dabs of paint reflect shimmering harmonics and gently rhythmic pizzicato, creating an impression of sound just as a reviewer’s pen or a recording device seeks to capture the moment.
